Finally

You may remember this post.  I had agreed to a trade for help with some house ideas and in return I would make her two cute kids aprons.  Well...then I got pregnant and was so tired I didn't get around to sewing.  When I finally started I made part of the aprons but never finished them..for some reason I wasn't real motivated to make kids aprons.  I think its because I didn't have anything to measure them on and hated spending time making something that might not work.

Needless to say I made a switcheroo and decided to make her a bag out of the fabric she picked out for the aprons.  Kinda tacky, I realize, but I whipped this together much faster and was hoping to finish it the day I went into labor. 

I finally finished it yesterday.  I'm happy with how it turned out, hope she is too.

Heart-Soul-Love

My latest project involved a few fabrics from Amy Butlers new line called LOVE.  I used the polka dot from the heart line, and the darling navy flower pattern from the soul line. 

I drew my SIL (sister in law) for Christmas and knew she had been wanting a laptop bag for quite some time.  I didn't use a pattern and it turned out pretty well.  I put a removable flower pin on the front to spice it up at times in need.  Here is what I came up with.....

A few nights before Christmas, some of us 'couve girls got together for a wonderful dinner at Ciao Vito.  If you haven't been there I'd suggest it.  Its always a dependably good meal.  It was so fun to catch up with friends.  I can't wait to do it again.  I had my short lense on my camera and the lady was struggling taking a picture of us, so this is what we ended up with.  Not too bad, but you should have seen the other one she took! LOL

Christmas was great, Davis enjoyed the "party" (he thought we were having a party and thats why there were gifts) and has been non-stop with all his new toys since.

While my blog tends to always be chipper, I must be honest and say that I haven't enjoyed 2009 like most years.  2009 has had some great highlights, but Its had some big dissappointments: husband being laid off for 2 months (he has an awesome job now), grandfather passing, misscarrying (again), and a family friend having a less than positive diagnosis with his cancer...I feel my list could include a few others but I'll leave it as that.  With that said, I'm really looking forward to 2010!!  While some of those things seemed awful at the time some really positive things have/will come of what I mentioned below.  I know most everything happens for a reason and I'll carry that mantra with me into 2010.  Do you have something your looking forward to in 2010?

Peaches n' Cream

I finished the birdie sling last night. I love the size of the bag and print of the fabric...although I wasn't too smart to buy white. Really, what was I thinking.

I'm planning on spraying it with scotch guard and hoping for the best.

I made my own piping, it was alot easier than I thought. I felt like the pattern needed to be broken up with something.

Speaking of peaches, like strawberries, I just started eating them too :) I especially love the yellow ones from New Seasons. I typically put them over vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt....delish!

Art Show and Finished Bag!

I could go on and on about how wonderfully lucky we are that D goes to school at Nike. Like everything else Nike does, the school is top notch. One of the things I love is they do alot of art with the kids, even the babies! Every year they do an art show, they feature a few individual works and then some classroom art projects. Its adorable. Below are a few pics of Davis's art....yes I'm a proud momma!

I've been sooo sick all weekend. I haven't even sewed much, rather I've been laying in the couch, reading, and taking naps. I did finish the Birdie Sling Bag, I love the shape, size, etc...however I hate the interfacing it called for! Kind of a bummer. Here are some pics...

Out of hibernation

There is something about the sun shining and warm temps that seem to "wake" me up this time of year! I love it, and it comes at a good time because lately I have been questioning our reasons for living in Portland. Portland is great for many reasons but the rain....well it tends to kill me this time of year. Drags on, yuck! I'm over it. So hallelujah to the sunshine and warm temps.

Saturday we played hookey from swim lessons and hit the Zoo! Little did we know it was Packy's 47th birthday (hello! the zoo was packed at 9am when the gates opened) but we managed through the crowds and had a great time.

Sunday we had our first family run. We did the Bridge to Brews run with some friends and family. D enjoyed the run thanks to Bob (the stroller) and loved to point out buses, trains, cars and bridges. Brandon claimed the run was easy (yes, he pushed the stroller, ugh!) and I ran faster than normal thanks to my bright idea of running as a family. It was great though, thanks honey for pushing me.

On to Monday....Ohhhhh lovely Mommy Meghan Monday! I took D to daycare in sweats and hat...how nice is it to not rush in the morning to get ready! I came home with latte in hand and decided to tackle D's closet and dresser first. I cleaned and sorted clothes, you all know that I really want a girl for my next child, but what the heck am I going to do with all these boy clothes and shoes if I do actually have a girl (which I highly doubt will be the case)?!? Someone will get very lucky!

I then decided it was time to sew. I'm making this bag for my SIL. I love this bag and I got most of it done in just a few short hours. Later that night we got the beach cruisers out of the garage and went to the gelatto shop down the street. What a perfect day!

We had a great weekend! Filled with NCAA basketball, a wonderful night out on Friday with my hubby's parents at Roux (which I highly recommend) and some good old family time.

Saturday my MIL and I went to check out a few new shops on Williams. Ink and Peat, Speiworks, and Hipcooks. Ink and peat, is just a little taste of heaven! Her flowers are fresh and creative, but she doesn't only do that good she also stocks her store with clever little finds. I can't wait to go back. Last night my MIL (mother in law) and I cracked open a bottle of champers and enjoyed some sea salt carmels from Ink and Peat while watching Twilight. Hmmm not a huge fan of the movie, but it was still fun.

I also finished this today for my sister!

It inspired me to do a give a way! Make sure you check back soon, not sure what it will be yet but I picked up some great fabric (see below) a few weekends ago and this pattern.

Done & Weekend Fun!

The diaper bag is done. It was a fun lil' project if I do say so. I think I'll take this week to regroup and figure out what to work on next. I have some great fabric burning a hole in my cupboard.

Overall it was a fun weekend. Friday night was girls night, wine, a little politics and Sex in the City movie. I didn't finish the whole movie so maybe I'll rent it one night this week while DH is traveling. Saturday was a run and a little speed shopping, I suddenly realize that shopping with little D isn't what it used to be. I feel rushed and shopping while being rushed simply isn't fun. Sunday was relaxing and a nice dinner with friends.

I realize this blog is supposed to be about "Sitting Still" and it is, although I realize I can do more of that. But...these are too fun not to share :)

First time on the big kids slide alone

Ok you caught me...this was from last weekend :) No Duck game this week.

This weeks "be a good mommy" duties:

- Not get frustrated when my son wants to do it himself (everything these days)

- Put 1/2 of his toys in a bin to pull out in a few months when he gets bored with what he has.

- Not rush!

Progress

I'm making progress, and the bag is turning out to be pretty fun. I hesitated using a pattern, sometimes it just makes it a little more tedious but since I hadn't made a diaper bag I thought I better this first time. Especially to learn how to do the box corners (which I heart!) and the bottle pockets....which are still in progress :) Stay tuned....

Everything but the..

Diaper Bag! I've been meaning to start this after the monkey madness and what have I been doing? Not sewing...falling asleep on the couch at 8:30pm...having a drink with dinner which really makes me tired...and again not sewing. I'm not sure if my girlfriend still reads my blog or not (the one who I'm making the diaper bag for) but I thought maybe by posting the fabric I would then be committed to starting this weekend. So here it is...the pieces are all cut and ready to go....but where did my mojo go?! I want to add a monogram to it, which got me thinking I needed a new machine! HA! Little did I know they cost about 2,000! So I found a place in Tigard that does Monogram...ok so maybe I can blame it on that. Its not really close and I would need to do that before I even start sewing :)

Tonight is a Duck game in Eugene and I'm meeting a girlfriend to run and grab coffee this morning. I've been again...really lazy! I am used to running all the time...ever since Hood To Coast, I've been lazy. So today starts a new day, and I'm back in the game.

Detour

I received a new lap top from work. As I'm carting this thing back and fourth from home to work, I suddenly realize..."I need a lap top bag". Did I need a bag or a pouch? I checked out a few existing cool items online. I settled on a pouch (although I'm rethinking that decision). Of course I wasn't going to buy one, rather sew one. So the last few evenings for about an hour or so, I've been cutting, sewing, re-figuring...and Waa~La!


I gotta say, this is my second project without a pattern, I think thats the way to go. Its much more enjoyable. How in the world I ever made boxed corners?! HELLO?! Who knows, but it worked out. I may add a Messenger bag style strap and I still have to sew the inside bottom (which you leave open to flip it inside out while sewing the two materials together) and of course iron the heck out of it...but I had to post.

So why detour you ask? I'm supposed to be working on the sock monkey stuff...the damn monkeys. Notice how I have developed a love hate relationship with these things...I have started them. I have one finished and 2 other bodies started. I lost steam, but am not allowing myself any other projects until I get this darn birthday stuff done. The invites arrived the other day, they are adorable. I chose different wording than those on the link. Here is what I have done so far...a long way to go.

Davis turned 11 months last Sunday!
