Detour

I received a new lap top from work. As I'm carting this thing back and fourth from home to work, I suddenly realize..."I need a lap top bag". Did I need a bag or a pouch? I checked out a few existing cool items online. I settled on a pouch (although I'm rethinking that decision). Of course I wasn't going to buy one, rather sew one. So the last few evenings for about an hour or so, I've been cutting, sewing, re-figuring...and Waa~La!


I gotta say, this is my second project without a pattern, I think thats the way to go. Its much more enjoyable. How in the world I ever made boxed corners?! HELLO?! Who knows, but it worked out. I may add a Messenger bag style strap and I still have to sew the inside bottom (which you leave open to flip it inside out while sewing the two materials together) and of course iron the heck out of it...but I had to post.

So why detour you ask? I'm supposed to be working on the sock monkey stuff...the damn monkeys. Notice how I have developed a love hate relationship with these things...I have started them. I have one finished and 2 other bodies started. I lost steam, but am not allowing myself any other projects until I get this darn birthday stuff done. The invites arrived the other day, they are adorable. I chose different wording than those on the link. Here is what I have done so far...a long way to go.

One down, lots to go!

Yiiipppiee! I just finished a fun apron for the Angry Chicken blog. I found this blog a few months ago when I was looking for apron inspiration. While I was on there I noticed she had people submitting their adorable aprons all centered around a theme. This months theme was Gingham...I'm not normally a fan but on one of my many trips to Fabric Depot I saw this fabric and bought it in the hopes of posting it on the AC blog.

There is nothing better than watching the Olympics and sewing, this project was one of my most enjoyable. I didn't feel rushed to get it done, I didn't use a pattern and it all came together perfectly.

So whats next you ask? Lots, I have started on the sock monkeys (which I'll post another time), sock monkey table cloths, sock monkey pillows, a diaper bag, and one more bag for my SIL. Whew....I better find some time to sit.

BTW, I'm finally keeping one of my projects :)

Sitting in the park

The Summer Concerts in Portland Parks came to a park by our house Saturday evening. We rounded up a few friends, snacks, good wine and ventured down for a listen. The symphony was playing, and it was wonderful. If you haven't checked out a concert in the park yet, I highly suggest it!

Sittin' still...finally

Thanks for all the comments on my fabric options. I will see what I can get done this weekend. I went to fabric depot again and walked around for 1.5 hours! Geesh! I found fabric for my friends diaper bag. This will be the first attempt at a diaper bag. I chose the pattern from Craft Apple , its my first diaper bag so I'm pretty excited. Sarah is having a girl, naming her Tatum. I would post the fabric, but I know she visits my blog so I'll leave that part a secret. Last night I finally got a few minutes to sit and cut the pattern. I'll keep you posted.



While I was at the fabric store, I saw an adorable fabric of sock monkeys. I heart sock monkeys, so I figured I would do Davis's first birthday as a sock monkey theme. I bought this to make a few throw pillows for the backyard furniture. They also have a couple cute sock monkey patterns in vinyl that I hope to make table cloths out of. I bought a few sock monkey kits to make for the goody bags, I'll need to get moving on those sometime soon. If you have any fun other things to do let me know. We are going to have a low-key BBQ with family.



Last night we went to a meeting at Nike for the new daycare...all I have to say is amazing! Now the tough part, telling his current place that we are leaving. They are wonderful there, but this opportunity is WAY too good to pass up. BTW, I'm typing this as he is napping....he's snoring! Wish you all could hear how cute it is.



Ok, I could go on and on so I'll stop for now... I loved forcing myself to sit and relax for a few hours last night, I'm finding that I cherish that time more and more as I have less and less of it.

I'm feeling the need to sew! I went to fabric depot yesterday, again I had to reel it in! What is my problem, I love all this wonderful fabric and want it but am not feeling very creative in the mix/match department. So...here is your chance to chime in. Yes you lurkers, that means you :)

Here are three options to make a fun market bag. Which do you like best? DH thinks its too many patterns in one item, and isn't so sure about the wood grain (which I heart). And for those of you who know me well, your honesty won't hurt my feelings.

Will one of these look good or should I bag it (haha get it)? One of my other ideas is to actually cut out some of the items on the floral fabric and stitch them on the wood grain.

What do you think? WTH?! I can't flip these once they are posted....Ok turn your head to the left...the top is on the left side....lame.
